Time Zone on the Moon?

Does the Moon Need a Time Zone?

I know that we have all heard about Pacific Time and Eastern Time, but maybe one day we will hear about moon time? There are dozens of lunar adventures that are in motion for the future, and even plans to build bases and other habitats on the moon. The European Space Agency thinks the time has come for some harmony. Normally, the time in space is determined based on the time on Earth, but as more countries prepare to establish bases on and around the moon, it may be necessary to develop an international system for measuring lunar time. A universally recognized time zone for the moon will facilitate communication between space organizations and may also result in more accurate guidance and navigation on the lunar surface. However, according to European space officials, there are a few major obstacles. A singular space agency may or may not be in charge of creating and preserving "moon time," for example. And if a new time zone is created, should it align with the advance of Earthly time or stand alone entirely? Debatable topics include how to calculate moon timekeeping itself.  The moon's clocks tick a tiny bit faster than those on Earth because they gain about 56 microseconds (one microsecond is equivalent to one millionth of a second) every day. Clocks on the moon don't always run at the same rates as clocks in lunar orbit due to these minute shifts that also differ based on location. Once they establish a working time system for the moon, they can go on and do the same for other destinations in the galaxy.

This is a very interesting photo of the European Space Agency developing a lunar lader called Argonaut. This is a standard, agreed-upon time zone for the moon that could ensure more precise guidance and navigation on the lunar surface!
